Ochsner Health seeks a dynamic and visionary pediatric physician leader to serve as the Chief Medical Officer and System Chair of Pediatrics at Ochsner Children’s. Under the direction of the Chief Physician Executive, Ochsner Health and President of Ochsner Clinic, this position serves as the senior clinical leader for Ochsner Children’s and is responsible for the strategic direction, clinical excellence, and operational performance of Ochsner Children’s services, including driving the integration and a consistent standard of excellence throughout all Ochsner Children’s sites of care. This dual role integrates executive oversight with departmental leadership to ensure the highest standards of care, innovation, and collaboration across more than 30 pediatric specialties and subspecialties. This position is one of three CMO direct reports to the Ochsner Health Chief Physician Executive and President, Ochsner Clinic.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide executive oversight for all pediatric hospital and medical specialties, including the Chief Quality Officer, and serves as the key physician leader and peer partner to the Chief Executive Officer of Ochsner Children’s.
Develop and implement strategic leadership initiatives for Ochsner Children’s and the Pediatrics Department by collaborating with senior executives to establish the vision, direction, and long-term goals of Ochsner Children’s Hospital.
Guide and support physicians and advanced practice providers to consistently deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in the hospital setting.
Monitor, evaluate, and ensure accountability for Ochsner Children’s clinical performance, patient safety, and patient outcomes through regular review and reporting.
Promote and cultivate a culture of innovation, quality improvement, and continuous learning among all clinical team members.
Model and teach effective strategies tailored to children’s care, while mentoring and developing emerging pediatric leaders to support succession planning within the department, and throughout Ochsner Children’s.
Demonstrate and advance the highest standards of professionalism in pediatric medicine by actively engaging with pediatric-focused state, regional, and national organizations.
Facilitate and negotiate collaborative, win/win relationships between multidisciplinary pediatric teams to align goals and encourage a shared identity centered on improving pediatric patient outcomes.
Deliver clear, engaging presentations to pediatric audiences and produce well-written, persuasive communications tailored for both clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
Oversee the completeness and appropriateness of pediatric care, manage resource utilization, initiate and lead change management efforts to enhance pediatric outcomes.
Required Qualifications
MD or DO with board certification in Pediatrics and/or Pediatric Subspecialty.
Eligibility for medical licensure in Louisiana.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in pediatric healthcare.
Demonstrated success in clinical operations, strategic planning, and team leadership.
Commitment to maintaining a clinical practice.
Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree (MBA, MHA, or equivalent), experience in academic medicine, and familiarity with Epic EMR.
